What some people refuse to acknowledge as a historical fact is that, other than the stories of those who suffered under the so-called ‘dark years’ of Martial Law, there are also stories of those who had lived and saw the Marcos era in a positive light. This is a fact that cannot be denied. In his lifetime, my late Dad had witnessed how 13 Presidents ran our country, and he would always say, “Marcos was the best President we ever had”. Ask our older folks, they can share a story or two of what and how it was during the time of Marcos. Put aside your unfounded bias and prejudice, just listen to their life stories as they tell it, and please save the let me educate you shit.
Like how history is always written, it was the victors of EDSA ’86 who dominated and defined the national narrative with their Anti-Marcos treatises, silencing the stories of the “vanquished” and relegating them into the margins of a newly constructed history. The Anti-Marcos narrative was mainstreamed and hardwired into our consciousness, ingrained into our society’s superstructure through the oligarch-controlled mass media, the educational system and the Church.
But after almost 4 decades, the “vanquished” had made a resounding comeback. Perhaps a large number of those who lived through the Marcos years on the bright side are still alive and had retold their stories for the new generation to judge and decide. And so the people made their decision loud and clear, and this time with a vengeance. On May 9, 2022 they delivered a landslide victory for Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr. to be the 17th President of the Republic of the Philippines.
I don’t see the recent course of events as leading towards a revision of history, I believe history is just being reclaimed and corrected. We are in an important juncture in our country’s history, as a new Chapter of its book is now being made. Let’s take part of it.
BTW, naalala ko pa noon, kabisado namin by heart at araw araw naming nirerecite ang Panatang Makabayan. Nang nagbago ang pihit ng kasaysayan pati ang Panatang Makabayan ay binago rin at pinalitan ito ng isang Snowflake version na. Mas gusto ko pa rin yung lumang version. Sana ibalik ito.
PS: Hindi po si Marcos ang gumawa ng lumang Panatang Makabayan, nilikha ito nung 1955 pa.
